Crooked Pine Ranch was originally established to raise a few
horses and this dream is slowly beginning to become a reality.
Although our herd is small, we have carefully selected ponies
and horses for their excellent dispositions as well as athletic
ability. See our lovely little ponies and other horses below and
read their story.
I have loved ponies every since I was a young child and always
kept a few ponies along with my show horses. For over 20 years
as a young adult, I have training horses as well as ponies for
the show ring. Our goal at Crooked Pine Ranch is to breed, raise,
and train ponies for children's mounts whether they are for the
show ring or just safe ponies for children to enjoy.

Nutmeg
Nutmeg is a dark brown Shetland pony. Our
little "Nut" loves to be petted and hugged and is always
close by when treats and affection are being handed out. This
little mare has a nice ground covering trot for such a small pony
and a curious nature. Nutmeg is the perfect baby-sitter and is
used for beginning riding lessons for students as young as 3 yr.
old. Nutmeg is bred to our Hackney stallion back in 2005 and had
a lovely little colt that looked just like his father.
Update: Nutmeg began having seizures in
early 2008 and the vet concluded she had a massive stroke and
passed away in her sleep. Nutmeg is dearly missed.

Ginger
Ginger is a beautiful dappled Palomino pony
with a long flowing mane and tail and has a sweet, loving personality.
Due to Ginger's vision impairment and advanced age, she is no
longer used for riding lessons. Ginger was bred to our Hackney
stallion and gave birth to a tiny little colt on 07/14/05. This
little guy turned out to be a lovely silver dapple like is mother
and went to a loving home as a little boy's riding pony. Ginger
will be expecting her last foal (before retirement) in June of
2009.

Admiral's advancing age he is now retired and breeds on a limited
basis.

Make It Easy Plaudit (Robin) is a registered
Appaloosa colt, Robin turned three years old in January of 2006
and is already showing a lot of potential as a hunter/jumper (he
makes a habit of jumping out of his 4 foot paddock). Robin will
be in trained starting this spring for 3-day eventing and will
be used for advanced adult lessons. Already 15.2 hands at 20 months
old, Robin has the height and build for a sport horse and we are
really excited about all the progress he has made.

Jeffy is a lovable donkey that joined the ranch to become a
livestock guardian for our large flock of dairy goats. Jeffy is
broke to ride and has also been trained to pull a cart. Jeffy's
favorite thing in the world is to have his butt scratched and
often alarms visitors when he walks up and turns his hindquarters
towards them.

Our first foal born on the ranch, born April 22, 2005. This
is Nutmeg's first foal and he's gaited just like his father,
Admiral. This boy was born over two weeks early but was healthy
and doing wonderfully. Named Sinbad, the silver color that he
was born with will shed out to be black and he has a tiny white
star on his forehead just like Black Beauty. Pictured at right
is Sinbad about 8 months old. He was sold to a little girl as
a Christmas surprize. His mane was all braided and he was body
clipped.

This is Ginger's new colt, born 07/14/05, he weighed a whopping
25 lbs at birth. Pictured at left at about 10 months old, Sterling
is a rare silver dapple (chocolate palomino) like his dam. Sterling
is very high gaited, like his father and also has his conformation.
Sterling will be kept a stallion and trained as a fine harness
pony. Sterling will stand at stud in 2007 on a limited basis.

Solitary Wind (Sally) is a registered Appaloosa
mare and a granddaughter of Prince Plaudit. Being 24 years old,
Sally is semi-retired and is used on occasion as a pack horse,
light riding lessons, and trail rides. When the heavy rains
flooded our ranch back in 2003 and the access road to the ranch
was completely under water, using Sally as a pack horse was
the only way we were able to get grain and groceries up to the
ranch. Sally is a big sweetheart and is worth her weight in
gold for getting us through the flood. Sadly, in the summer
of 2004 Sally developed a large tumor on her spine and had to
be put down when she could no longer walk. We sure do miss this
old gal.
